I Still Believe In Love All along I've been told of moonlight and the meaning of romance is just the way to change your life and turn lovers around in a trance and I hope when I find love I won't have had to search forever and ever a million broken hearts and bottles is not what life's worth never oh never Can't help wondering about the cosmic arranger Can't help fearing cupid's living in danger I've just had another one night stand that ended in pain yet I worry in vain (Chorus) I still believe in love I still can't take my eyes off strangers Life is never lived enough I still believe in love I still believe in love I still can't take my eyes off strangers Life is never lived enough I still believe in love Today I'm going to see the preacher He's gonna tell me about my love and how experience was his teacher and all that other kind of stuff I hope he's got his friends and he practiced what he preaches I don't see him staring out the window watching pouring rain drain into empty beaches Can't help wondering about the cosmic arranger Can't help fearing cupid's living in danger I've just had another one night stand that ended in pain yet I worry in vain (Chorus)

The Mysteries We Fear There's a ghost around me now It rides the corners seeking all the paths I know. and through these paper-thin walls feel the regulated fragments of the worlds we show. (chorus) There's a light. Outside's the solace and the silence cold and dear. Whispered edges of all the sadness and mysteries we fear alone. Outside I go to hide there are no rogue recruits or faces I must know. No hellhounds on the beach the wind in broken trees and moonlit star blue glow. (chorus) Where do I go from here? When inside is worn out pain and abandoned hills of truth? I'll try to find a smile along the pathways that the lost are free to use. (chorus) Crutch and vice-less now laughter surrounds and echoes through my heart that weeps. Dreams turn into fights when inside turns outside towards a world who sleeps. (chorus) There's a ghost around me now It rides the corners seeking all the paths I know.

Runaway Train Tonight Yes I see that there's no runaway train tonight, babe Heading out to the end of the world I can see under the night, babe the stars reflecting in your pearls If you kept me here waiting for a train that didn't come There ain't no use in standing Let's lay here for a while Yes I see there's no runaway tonight, babe Going somewhere that I ain't been Keep my heart hanging on tight, babe It's pounding so fast about to fly away If you kept me here waiting for the train that didn't come There ain't no use in standing Let's lay here for the night Yes I see that there's no runaway train tonight, babe to try to shed some light on what was over long ago If you kept me here a waiting For the train that didn't show I wouldn't mind taking what you can give to my soul I see there's no runaway tonight, babe Heading out to the end of the world Heading out to the end of the world

Desktop Calculator She bought one desktop calculator She tried to keep it away from herself She never used it She never used it Her desktop calculator She's reality's daughter an outcast in popular clothes She's reality's daughter an outcast in popular clothes She'll need it to add up all of her sweet things She'll need to add up the men she'll refuse She'll need it to add She'll need it to add Her desktop calculator She's reality's daughter an outcast in popular clothes She's reality's daughter Love has yet to do her wrong She bought one desktop calculator Because she's too lazy to use her mind She never used it She never used it because nobody wants to date her She's reality's daughter an outcast in popular clothes She's reality's daughter an outcast in popular clothes She's reality's daughter an outcast in popular clothes

Ragged Man 03:44
Ragged Man Ragged man/ragged eyes/ragged lips/speak ragged lies hideous face/crooked back/hasn't changed/his looks yet ragged man/wants your love/to turn his life/inside out to steer him back/swallow his pride/or what's left of it/dying inside women took him/for a ride let his sins run him wild and everyone of them left him for dead with nothing left for a ragged man (Chorus) Ragged man/where do you go? with your head in your hands/in the sweltering cold? Ragged man/breaks the laws/taking a stand/for something he lost bloody freedom/drips in his mind/criminal memories/ain't life unkind? Ragged man/bears no cross/his breast is bare/his mind is lost left him for dead/with nothing but/nothing left/but a ragged man (Chorus)
6.
Light Of A Shadow I've given my love I've pretended and played Kept each and every secret locked somewhere out of reach in the light of a shadow I saw the truth in my dream time took me forward no more make believe There came a girl of the nighttime her eyes painted wild she was a slave to her misfortune and such a passionate child I should have known where to find her but she was under my reach Oh she knew how to hide and I knew how to seek (Chorus) In the light of a shadow of all the things I found A kiss in the dark a kiss of relief and if I understood what I could make of it It wouldn't take long to find how she amazes me Oh yeah in the light of a shadow The rainbow cut through the stormy clouds The shades of the sunrise were falling on the ground In the light of a shadow I saw the beauty in her world unbroken by the thunder pounding down her darker roads (Chorus)
7.
Lost Like The Wind Years alone were spent and wasted we danced beneath the fading stars I let her conquest defeat the purpose to be embraced from near and afar We once used to live in a house of dreams proud not to beg in a house of pity but yesterdays days were all lost like the wind and all I have left is a life full of empty (Chorus) Lost like the wind oh I'm lost like the wind The winds of time whispered of her demise memories collapsed into restless nights we spoke til the last of the words were spoken spoke til our souls made that soulful sound The honky tonk brigade they silently listen for the million lonely raindrops to burden and fall I am alone and my heart's up for ransom and the last of the pallbearers have trudged through the town (Chorus)
8.
What You Mean To Me I'm nobody's man I'm waiting in line The sun reads the sunset and I'm running out of time The autumn leaves they rustle The wind holds me in its cold It's hard to have a heart of gold knowing it's getting old (Chorus) Everything you do is sweet Even a blind man would see What you mean to me What you mean to me You've already got me going I'm ready when you want me I think that the blind man can see what you mean to me I'm waiting for your eyes To take me to the skies I'm hard to reach but touch I'm sad as goodbyes Alone until you call Until you walk alongside me Through the gypsy fields of morning Through Waterloo and Corning (Chorus)
9.
Without You Around Sweet sunset tonight is the night I will finally catch a glimpse of sweet old you and my heart is empty without you around it's like I'm lost I need you I walk along drifter street my head's in a cloud how long I've searched to find a cure realized tonight there's no better night than to find a cure through you and my heart is calling an empty sound without you around it's like I'm lost I need you (Bridge) I need you like a needle needs a vein The blood can never be washed away there's traces I've never been to it's like I'm lost without you. Sweet sunset tonight is the night I will finally catch a glimpse of sweet old you and my heart is empty without you around it's like I'm lost I need you it's like I'm lost I need you

I've Been Lonely Too Long I've been lonely too long and yesterday it occurred to me how you and I were a dream that only the misery could help me see I've lived in my past and it ain't so bad so darling won't you come on home to me? I've been lonely too long I can't take it forever and to find someone new I don't believe I could ever and I've lived in my past and it ain't so bad so darling won't you come on home to me? Good times we've had I never had it so good You can win what you lose If you learn what you should Oh darling won't you give me a helping hand? I've been lonely too long I'll never forget the good way you treated this child of regret I've lived in my past and it ain't so bad so darling won't you come on home to me?

Promises 02:27
Promises I've been walking out at night escaping all but the rain I've given in on only one fight and a losing fight it is (Chorus) There's something about that joy we had running out our door so fast It tends to take too much to say I just can't promise anything There's a cold wind howling hard tonight and I love the words it says "tell her how it feels to believe your world is running away" (Chorus) There's nothing worse than hoping for nothing less and nothing more than one last kiss to be dearly missed I just can't promise any less I've been walking out at night escaping all but the rain I've given in on one last fight it's like I'll never win again There's nothing worse than hoping for nothing less and nothing more than one last kiss to be dearly missed I just can't promise any less There's nothing worse than hoping for nothing less and nothing more than one last kiss to be dearly missed I just can't promise any less

about

Leftover Soldiers - well - the meaning of that title brings to mind all these songs, some of which I haven't played in 15-30 years. Most of them have been sidelined by other songs or just the overwhelm of having so many songs. Even though these songs are the last of my "past songs" to be recorded and released, these are some songs I've carried with me for so long, it's an occasion of celebration to finally release them. Some of these songs, such as "Desktop Calculator", I always considered my worst song, and ever thought I would record it, being at the bottom of my dwindling list of unrecorded songs. I played it as an example of the bad songs I'm not going to release and the whole crowd loved it, much to my surprise. As you know, most of the songs I write I hope for others to cover them. There's simply too many songs for me to ever get around to including in my own performances.

Most of the songs from this collection date from 1993-1999. Some are new music put to old lyrics I found in my old songbooks recently. It's very fun to make new songs from these old forgotten words.

To all the great supporters I've had during this pandemic and the past 10 years on Bandcamp, THANK YOU for your support. Most of all THANK YOU to Bandcamp for existing. This is the only place I can imagine making any kind of sustenance with my life's passion and work. Thank you for making this possible. I sing your praises everywhere I go and have introduced many a Spotify fan into a Bandcamp fan. I only have one or two songs on Spotify, and that's because I looked at photos of the staff at Bandcamp and saw good people who I could imagine hanging out with. My kind of people!

Now that I'm officially caught up to the present, 95% of the songs you will hear from now released by me will be new songs. It's an exciting time and I look forward to the future and a new era of songwriting.

Recorded December 2021 at Mighty Tight Recording Studio, Bonny Doon, CA.
Dan Frechette: Vocals, Harmonies, Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Lap Slide Guitar, Harmonica, Bass, Drums.

Guitar on solo acoustic tracks is a really awesome 1951 Gibson J-50 with 16 repaired cracks. I enjoyed owning this guitar for the past year and a half and she's been good to me, and I'm passing her along if you know anyone interested in buying her (she can be returned to right handed and is still all original except the pickguards). :)

Album cover taken in Bonny Doon, CA by Jean Meyer.
