Roland paid his dues until there were no dues left to pay
He played a game as a bartender and he found himself a place to stay
his old man always shot him down

he knew he had a heart somewhere below the ground

He trashed his room one night hard luck with a girl that shook him cold
he passed a police barricade driving without a license in a car he stole
he didn't expect he'd live to find a better road than the one he'd blown down
he was dreaming of a heart somewhere below the ground
